I really want to make my own compost but I don’t have any place in my yard where I can just pile up waste so I was wondering if I could make it in a trash can (like the ones used to put grass cuttings and twigs for the truck to pick up). If I do that then how should I start it and with what and how can I make sure that air gets in the bottom? Thank you all for your ideas.

Let’s say I’m too lazy to make two seperate piles of weeds (acceptable to compost, and unacceptable to compost). What if I just want to cut down on work and dump them all in the compost pile. Is there anything I can do to make sure they won’t germinate later?
Could I put something like weed ‘n feed in my compost pile, or would that be stupid?
Thanks.

At work, we serve these salads, some with meat and some not. But after every meal that i serve, i just feel guilty for throwing them away and not composting. So i thought i would start a compost. Is it bad to compost something with oil or meat? What are the other foods you can not compost?

Please give me examples of each.
I never put put / bones or animal waste in my compost, but I read alot about green waste and brown waste and they seem the same – what’s the difference?

I am trying to conduct an experiment measuring the effect of nitrogen concentration on cress growth.
I want to alter the concentration of Nitrogen only, without altering the concentration of potassium and phosphate.
Are there composts available with varying concentrations of NPK? If so, which ones are available?

I want to go to a store, choose one and bring it home with me. Big box stores in the Chicago suburbs don’t seem to carry them. I would rather not pay for shipping if I don’t have to – especially for a large compost bin.

My dog died. I was thinking about rather than burying it, I would compost it. Would it be best to cut the dog into small pieces first, or can I just wrap the entire dog (its a golden retriever) in a tarp and put it by the garden to rot? What would be the best thing to do? Thanks in advance for all the SERIOUS answers. No losers!

I would like to know not only how to build it, but what to put in it to begin. I think that you need to “layer” the first stuff you put in, but I have no idea! Please people who have done this give me some tips & websites to check out.
